Why Amazon KDP Keeps Rejecting Your Paperback Cover Size (And the Exact Math to Fix It)

Amazon KDP can reject paperback cover PDFs when the full-wrap dimensions or bleed do not match the required layout. Add 0.125" (3.2 mm) bleed to the outer edges of the full wrap: the top, bottom and outside edges. For a standard 6" × 9" white-paper book with 200 pages, the calculated full-wrap size rounds to 12.700" × 9.250" (3,810 × 2,775 pixels at 300 DPI)—not 12.25" × 9". Skip the manual math and calculate your cover dimensions with our KDP Spine & Cover Size Calculator.

How Do You Calculate Exact KDP Full-Wrap Cover Dimensions?

To calculate a KDP full-wrap paperback cover, multiply your page count by the paper thickness factor (0.002252" for white paper, 0.0025" for cream paper, or 0.002347" for premium color; standard color uses 0.002252"), then add 2 × trim width + 0.25" horizontal bleed for total width, and trim height + 0.25" vertical bleed for total height.

Why Does KDP Flag "Barcode Margin" or "Spine Text" Errors?

KDP requires a minimum 0.0625" (1.6 mm) safe variance margin on both sides of the spine fold and reserves a 2.0" × 1.2" zone in the lower-right back cover for the ISBN barcode. KDP help uses both 79 and more than 79 pages for spine text, and Cover Creator requires 80. Our calculator conservatively uses at least 80 production pages and checks the space available.
